AI: Technological Revolution or NFT Frenzy?

May 6, 2024 By Ramon

Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is extraordinary and here to stay. However, it is crucial to ensure that the enthusiasm does not turn into a passing fad, similar to the NFT era and other previous trends.

The excitement has generated billions of dollars invested in a variety of artificial intelligence projects, many of which lack a clear purpose and adequate planning or feasibility studies. Not all current contexts follow the same direction, and here lies the crucial role of acting as mediators.
On the positive side, in the coming years, we will witness significant advancements, especially as other companies compete with OpenAI and promote valuable delivery and reduced usage costs.

META (Facebook) recently announced substantial investments and is already reaping excellent results with Llama 3. Similarly, Microsoft with Phi-3 aims for smaller models with high efficiency. Other initiatives include Google AI (Bard, LaMDA, PaLM, Meena, BERT), among many others.
The long-term discussion, considering the necessary features, revolves around General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) approaching human capabilities in decision-making.

Currently, what we have in GenAI are algorithms that simulate decisions based on probabilities, a remarkable outcome, especially compared to 30 years ago, when AI was a topic restricted to movies and universities.

This modern AI movement has drastically accelerated the value of companies like NVIDIA, which offer graphics cards capable of processing these heavy, energy-consuming algorithms and hardware. Perhaps this is one of the next barriers to be overcome with the next generation of quantum computers, which promise to radically change current computational models.
I previously mentioned Microsoft’s Phi-3 initiative, and it is important to note that having artificial intelligence directly on our devices, accelerating local decision-making, will be a strong trend.

One of the great achievements of OpenAI, and deserving of recognition, was breaking training barriers and at the same time making the technology accessible, whether through APIs, web, or mobile devices. This reminds us of the launch of the iPhone when Apple demonstrated something everyone knew was necessary but no one had taken the initiative.

This democratization was excellent, generating opportunities across all sectors and is the reason for this reflection, offering a brief summary of the current moment and then the concern about how to deliver real value.
I have observed in the market a huge euphoria within companies in the search for AI solutions, with astronomical budgets approved, but without proper internal assessment or proof of feasibility.

We play an important role in anticipating facts, studying trends, and contributing with an innovation strategy, directing software implementations to promote the use of artificial intelligence in companies, always looking at the final outcome for the organization and the customers who will actually consume and benefit from these implementations.

Understand the challenges of your organization, the technologies involved, the business flows that are operated internally by the current and legacy technologies, and develop educational journeys about the possibilities of generative artificial intelligence available in the market. Explore each player’s offerings and create design sessions for experimentation and proof of concept.
